Grants and Bursaries
In addition to working with schools, we offer funding to both individuals and organisations in line with our conservation objectives.
Grants
The Trust offers a limited number of grants of up to £2,000 each per year in order to further projects and research connected with historic parks, gardens or other significant designed landscapes within Somerset. Such projects might address both conservation and education or may relate to new garden initiatives where there is considerable public benefit.
The following are not eligible for grant aid by the SGT: routine maintenance and staff costs, work associated with very large water bodies or forestry work, government-owned sites and non-departmental public bodies such as English Heritage.
Bursaries
The Trust has allocated a limited number of bursaries in the past to individuals whose courses are connected in some way with parks, gardens or designed landscapes. This fund is currently suspended with resources concentrated elsewhere but it is hoped that it will reopen again in the future. In the meantime, those seeking assistance might like to approach organisations such as the RHS https://www.rhs.org.uk/education-learning/bursaries-grants and Hardy Plants Society (HPS) https://hardy-plant.org.uk/bursary-scheme/
Approval Process
Applications for grants and bursaries can be made at any time. Detailed guidance notes and application forms can be viewed here for grants and here for bursaries.
PLEASE NOTE: these application forms should NOT be used for grants to Schools – see under the Schools tab for the correct application form.
